Does this exist, and if and so could anyone tell me where I can download information technology?

Merely looking for a free version that I can download, don't desire to use the app store and don't accept iLife.

I don't need a new and fancy version, something basic is fine - just looking for the latest I can become for free on ten.6.five if such a matter exists.

No it does not exist. The iLife suite in of itself (older versions of it) are not gratuitous and at that place isn't a standalone version that is free other than the current version which volition not work on Snowfall Leopard.

In that case, what's the latest version of iLife that will work with 10.6.five?

Does it allow you to only install GB?

In that instance, what's the latest version of iLife that will work with 10.half dozen.5?

Why are you staying with 10.six.5?

iLife '09 will be peachy for 10.half-dozen
(run your System Update to do all updates, which volition update a variety of parts of your system.)
Yep, you tin choose a custom install of only Garageband.

Just realised my original software reinstall drive (or the one that came with the laptop anyway - mill slim white apple 8gb stick) says on it "Mac OSX v10.6, iLife '11".

I tried installing GB (alone) off information technology but information technology fails with no reason given. It's the aforementioned drive I used for installing OSX and had no issues (it has ten.6.5 on it).

Is it but the drive being flaky? Seems odd to include an incompatible version.

Where did yous get the "factory slim white apple tree 8gb stick"?
Apple tree never supplied Os 10 on a flash drive, prior Lion (Bone 10 ten.7)

Withal should work, but Apple tree didn't provide that.
Did you run the iLife installer, and select a custom install of just Garageband?
Or, only endeavor a file copy from the installer (which will non work)?
Take you tried just letting iLife install, without changing whatever settings? Yous tin ever just trash the apps that you don't want to keep.

Is there some reason that you don't upgrade your OS X system to 10.half-dozen.8? You lot can run Software Update, or but download and install the combined updater straight from Apple - from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

Still should work, but Apple tree didn't provide that.

Information technology's from Apple. The 2010 Macbook Air came with a USB software restore central which had 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 on it.

Yeah Apple did provide information technology, it'southward the one described in the post above. That is coincidentally my machine exactly - Tardily '10 MBA and the Apple tree stick has 10.six.5 and iLife 'xi on information technology. I'm a bit surprised that people here said only GB from iLife '09 would work just it seems the calculator came with 'xi - confused.

I ran the installer, and chose a custom install of only GarageBand (and the compulsory iLife files which you tin't un-check). I did non try installing everything but I really don't want to do that. Enough of gratis space on deejay etc.

It doesn't try to do much and quickly says an unknown mistake occurred, is there a log somewhere I could check?

Unless you have a particularly compelling reason non to update to 10.six.8, run Software Update and utilize all the updates that appear. Information technology brand take more than ane circular of update/restart to go them all. (Also annotation that all the updates you go in Software Update are free.) So see if Garageband installs. If it does, yous'll need to run Software Update once more to get updates for Garageband.
